Dress Code

The Appearance and Dress Code Policy aims to keep all students neat, clean, well groomed and appropriately dressed during school and school functions.

Living Word Lutheran School has adopted school uniforms for grades K-8. The purpose of these uniforms is to remove distractions from the classroom, and focus on the primary goal of a Christian education.

Appearance Policy
A person’s heart, mind and soul are the essence of that person.  A person’s character is of greater value than their appearance.  However, outward appearance is important, since outward appearance can distract or enhance one’s Christian witness to the world.

The Appearance and Dress Code policy aims to keep all students neat, clean, well groomed and appropriately dressed during school and school functions.  Anything not listed as acceptable will be unacceptable.  All hair styles, hair length, makeup, jewelry, nail polish, etc. should be modest and appropriate in appearance as determined by the administration of the school.  The dress code applies to students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade.

General Information
Appropriate school shoes include loafers, docksiders, oxfords, saddle shoes, athletic shoes, etc.  These may include a rubber or vibram sole. This does not include sandals, clogs, open-heel or open-toe shoes.  It does not include indoor boots of any kind.  Shoes should be neat and clean.  Athletic shoes are permitted and must be predominantly white or black.  They cannot have any light up features.

  • All clothing must be kept neat and clean and must be of appropriate length and size.  Appropriate length of jumpers and skirts is touching the tip of the knee in a standing position.
  • Blouses and shirts must be tucked into slacks, pants or skirts.
  • Logos and insignias, other than approved spirit wear items from the office, on any clothing item (i.e.: socks, belts, etc.) are not permitted.  The exception to this might be shoes, as some manufacturers emboss their logo or name discreetly on the shoe.
  • Belts must be worn with pants and shorts that have belt loops in grades 3-8 (optional for K-2).
  • T-shirts may be worn under shirts, but must be white in color.
  • Pants must be classic, uniform-style pants.  They may not be cargo, painter, zipped, striped, leg-pocketed or flare pants.
